What People Are Saying
With a 4.8 rating on Amazon from over 150 reviews, Bob’s Red Mill Gluten free Corn Grits/Polenta has made a lot of people’s gluten free diets easier. This is one of many gluten free products in the Bob’s Red Mill line, a company that is dedicated to producing products by way of traditional stone ground mill practices.
One reviewer stated that no other product comes close to Bob’s Red Mill brand: “…we’ve tried a few good regional products, but they’re just not as good as Bob’s…I prefer the more coarse grind of Bob’s yellow grits, and the flavor is exceptional.”
Some reviewers do say that the coarse grind isn’t the right texture for creamy grits the way they are typically prepared in the American South. If you are looking for this texture you may need another product or may need to put these through a spice grinder/coffee grinder before making them into grits.
It should also be noted that these are specifically made of yellow corn while many might be more accustomed to the finer texture and lighter color of white hominy grits.
Even if they aren’t your cup of tea for grits, they are the perfect consistency for polenta. Across the board reviewers said these made good grits even if they didn’t care for the texture of the cereal.
Overall, this is a good all-purpose product but definitely keep in mind that they are a coarse grind and are made of yellow corn, not white.
